Antonio's Hospital Visit :(

On Sunday, the day after his friends birthday party, Antonio became very sick :( This came on all of a sudden, out of the blue. Sunday morning, my poor baby had horrible diarrhoea and was vomiting every 25 min :( By the time the late afternoon came, I saw he was not eating or drinking ANYTHING I was giving to him and around 6pm his coloring looked awful. He was like a gray/white. Josh was working and I got so scared, my mother and I rushed him to the hospital. Good thing we did! This poor child was so dehydrated and lost 10% of his body weight. He couldn't even move he was so lethargic. He had to be hooked up to an IV and he was such a big, brave boy about it he did not even cry! They did some tests and found out he had a double ear infection AND rotavirus :( For those of you who don't know, rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrhoea among infants and young children, and is one of several viruses that cause infections commonly known as stomach flu, despite having no relation to influenza. Giovanni [[praise God]] was vaccinated for this as a baby. This vaccination is fairly new and that is why Antonio never received the rotavirus shot. They usually don't vaccinate for rotavirus over the age of 5.

Antonio was in the hospital for a total of 4 days. The first 2 days were HORRIBLE. He did not talk at all and was not allowed to eat or drink anything :( In two days, I got a total of 2 1/2 hours of sleep cause I was up all night cleaning poop and throw up (lucky me) haha. The 3rd day, he was put on a bland diet but still was not eating or drinking anything, so they would not release him. He was talking and feeling better though, because of the IV and his blood work was improving every day. His doctor came in often to check on him. By the 3rd and 4th day he was feeling a lot better, his potassium was up and he finally started to eat and drink a little bit so the doctor said he could go home! We were so thrilled to hear those words! Those 4 days was a complete torture treatment, especially when you have another little one to take care of. Josh and I were taking turns spending the night at the hospital with Antonio while the other took Giovanni home for the night and took care of him. Of course, Grandma/Grandpa and Daddy bought out Toys R Us for him and he was so happy. It is now Friday night and today we had a follow up doctor appointment. Dr. said he looks great and is no longer contagious! He is eating more and more every day. We are so grateful for all of our family and friends who were calling and writing every day for our baby, it means more then you all know. Josh's Sargent's wife even came all the way here yesterday to bring us a delicious dinner and dessert. It was one of the nicest things ever! That woman was amazing for what she did!
